Former cricketer Wasim Jaffer was left surprised with Yashasvi Jaiswal’s decision to switch his domestic team from Mumbai to Goa. Notably, the young Indian batter has decided to shift to Goa due to his differences with the Mumbai team management. He has also been issued No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and will be seen playing for Goa in the next domestic season in India.

Reacting to this, Wasim Jaffer said that a player in such a young age as Yashasvi Jaiswal shouldn’t have left Mumbai, irrespective of whatever Goa cricket management offered to him. “No matter what Goa was offering him. You don’t leave Mumbai, especially at this age," Jaffer said.

“It’s okay if somebody is 34-35 then you want to go out. That differences with Mumbai team management must have prompted him to take this decision, but I think leaving Mumbai is a shocking decision," the former cricketer added.

Jaiswal has taken that decision too soon: Wasim Jaffer

Speaking further, Wasim Jaffer said that he was left surprised after hearing about Yashasvi Jaiswal’s switch from Mumbai to Goa. The 47-year-old believes that the opening batter has taken this decision too soon and he should focus on playing all three formats for India rather than playing Ranji Trophy.

“Somebody who has played from Under-14s to now for Mumbai, and Goa being a plate-group team that has just come into the elite group – for him (Yashasvi) to go and play there, whatever time he will spend on first-class cricket, I am surprised he’s taken that decision so soon," Jaffer said.

“But he shouldn’t be looking to play Ranji Trophy. For somebody like him, he should be playing for India in all three formats. That should be his focus. I’m sure it (the move) is playing on his mind. Because that has been happening in this week or two," he further said.
