West Indies legend Dwayne Bravo has announced his retirement from professional T20 cricket with the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 to be his last tournament. In a post on his official Instagram account, the 40-year-old spoke about being on a “great journey” in his cricketing career, which he would like to end in front of his Caribbean people.
Notably, the retirement post from Dwayne Bravo came hours before Trinbago Knight Riders are slated to play their opening game of CPL 2024 against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots at the Warner Park, Basseterre. During his illustrious career in CPL, he has picked up the most wickets among all the bowlers, registering 128 scalps in 103 matches at an average of 22.40 and an economy of 8.69.
Dwayne Bravo has won five CPL titles, the most for any player in tournament history, including three with Trinbago Knight Riders after the first one with Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel. He also captained St Kitts & Nevis Patriots to their first CPL title in 2021.
In his retirement post on Instagram, Dwayne Bravo wrote, “It’s been a great journey. Today I would like to announce my retirement from @cplt20. This season will be my last one and I’m looking forward to a playing my final professional tournament in front of my Caribbean ppl! @tkriders - where it all started for me and will end with my team that I help built from scratch!”
Moreover, Dwayne Bravo had announced his retirement from the IPL in 2023 before becoming a part of the CSK coaching staff. His T20I retirement for West Indies came after the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE.
