The Manchester City goal-keeper,  Ederson, has been ruled out of the FA Cup final and the final game of the Premier League season, due to a fractured eye socket. The Brazilian suffered the injury during a 2-0 win for Manchester City in their Premier League clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after a collision with Christian Romero.

The incident happened in the second half of the vital Premier League clash between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur which led to the doctors advising the manager Pep Guardiola to replace Ederson. The 30-year-old didn’t take the decision too kindly, showcasing his frustration to everyone at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after getting substituted in the 69th minute.

Ederson ruled out of FA Cup Final due to fractured eye socket

Manchester City released a statement about Ederson’s injury, which read, “The Brazilian goalkeeper suffered the injury during our 2-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday evening. He has since undergone scans of the affected area that have revealed a small fracture to the right eye socket. The injury will prevent Ederson from playing any further part in the remaining games of the 2023/24 season. Everyone at the Club wishes Ederson a speedy recovery.”

The replacement for Ederson during their Premier League clash was the German Stefan Ortega, who made a couple of crucial saves to help Manchester City keep a clean sheet for the first time against Tottenham Hotspur at their new stadium. Moreover, in the last two seasons, he has played in every round of matches in the FA Cup and League Cup, which is why his involvement in the upcoming final against Manchester United wasn’t in question despite the presence of Ederson in the squad.

The final of the FA Cup will be played at Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday, May 25, where Manchester City will be defending their title against last year’s finalists and their neighbouring rivals Manchester United.
