Punjab Kings are set to face Rajasthan Royals in match number 18 of IPL 2025 that will begin shortly at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh. Ahead of the much awaited clash, PBKS shared a post on their social media which termed the rivalry between both teams as El Classico. However, it didn’t go well with the fans as they came up with hilarious trolls and memes to their post.
Notably, Spanish word 'El Classico', which means Classic in English, is a very popular term in football. The term is used for the rivalry between two Spanish clubs, Real Madrid and Barcelona and is regarded as the greatest rivalry of the sport. Apart from that, the term El Classico also became popular in cricket with the introduction of IPL and came into use when Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, two of the most successful teams are seen in the cash-rich league.

Notably, PBKS and RR have been a part of some of the thrilling encounters in the last few years in the IPL. From Ravichandran Ashwin mankading Jos Buttler in 2019 to Rahul Tewatia hitting five sixes in an over and turning the match around for RR in 2020, along with Sanju Samson’s fighting ton which went in vain in 2021, there have been several moments which have made a rivalry between PBKS and RR a interesting one in the last few years.
However, the fans didn’t like when PBKS shared a posted ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 clash against RR and labelled it as El Classico. On the social media, PBKS shared a poster with head coach Ricky Ponting in the middle, along with skipper Shreyas Iyer, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Marco Jansen in the frame. In the above frame, it was written ‘El Classico.’
Coming after back-to-back wins, PBKS are set to play their first home game of the season as they will take on RR at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh. Meanwhile, RR will also look to get their second consecutive win of the season.
