England are planning to bring their star cricketer Jofra Archer back into the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, slated to commence from June 1 onwards. I n his recent interview, the Managing Director of England men’s cricket team, Rob Key, spoke about how they plan to build Jofra Archer slowly for the upcoming world tournament.
The T20 World Cup 2024 is going to be played in the United States of America and the Caribbean, wherein 20 teams are divided into four groups. England are paired alongside the arch-rivals Australia, Scotland, Namibia, and Oman in Group B of the biggest international tournament in the T20 format.

While speaking on the Tailenders Podcast on the BBC, Rob Key was quoted as saying the latest about Jofra Archer, “Our plan is the T20 World Cup, building him up slowly.” Notably, the English fast bowler is currently undergoing rehabilitation for his long-standing elbow injury, which has troubled him since the tour of South Africa in 2019-20.
Jofra Archer last played for England in March 2023 against Bangladesh in ODIs and T20Is, and shortly after, he took part in the IPL for Mumbai Indians, where the elbow injury recurred. He had trained with the English white-ball team on their tour of the Caribbean in December 2023, sparking rumours of a return to the national squad very soon.
“I saw him bowl in the Caribbean, and it was like he’d never been away. I don’t want to get back to this thing where he plays and then goes down again,” remarked Rob Key.
Furthermore, the ECB decided against sending Jofra Archer to the IPL in the year 2024, to ensure he is fully recovered for international cricket down the road. Rob Key stated, “He (Jofra Archer) wanted to play in the IPL, but we said not this time. Hopefully, the years he has missed, he can add to the end of his career. He is such a talent.”
