Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali once again hit the headlines after the Pakistan cricket team were handed a drubbing defeat at the hands of New Zealand in their recently-concluded white-ball series. After going down in the five-match T20I series by 1-4 margin, the Men in Green were clean sweeped in the ODI series.
Seeing them go down once more after making an early exit in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, the Men in Green have faced the heat of the moment. Amid this, former cricketer Basit Ali has called for the resignation of the selection committee.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ali expressed dissatisfaction with the selection committee’s decisions. He opined that the committee consisting of the likes of Aleem Dar, Aqib Javed, Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali and Hassan Cheema lacks expertise in team formation.
“The selection committee should resign. They don't know how to make teams. From the Champions Trophy until now, it has been a flop show. Even the tomato seller knows more than you. They were also asking why you didn't include spinners in the Champions Trophy,” Basit Ali said on his YouTube channel.
"Aaqib Javed should step down. If you stay for four months, you will also lose against Bangladesh," he added. Basit Ali wasn’t the only one as former cricketer Banzid Khan also added that the Men in Green have fallen behind the likes of Australia and India. "We feel entitled as if we should be winning World Cups regularly. But how many have we actually won? You are not on Australia's level, not on India's level," banzid Khan stated.
With the Men in Green completing their international fixtures, they will return to their home country to feature in the premier Pakistan T20 league, the Pakistan Super League (PSL), set to commence from April 11.
