The Football Association (FA) has fined Tottenham £20,000 after they accepted the charge of failing to control their players during their 4-1 Premier League win against West Ham last weekend at home. The altercation began when West Ham midfielder Mohammed Kudus kicked Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven before pushing him and his teammate Pape Matar Sarr in the face, which led to a red card and three-match ban for the Hammers player, while the Spurs weren’t let off the hook easily either.
Notaly, just a day ago, as per the report from the BBC, both Tottenham and West Ham were charged by FA for failing to ensure that their players “didn't behave in an improper and/or provocative and/or violent way.” After Tottenham officials admitted to charge from last weekend’s Premier League game, they got handed a five-digit fine, which was accepted by them.
I thought our players controlled themselves but obviously the FA felt differently: Ange Postecoglou
Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham, spoke about the weekend’s incident in a press conference prior to his team’s UEFA Europa League match against AZ Alkmaar at home, and said, “I'm not really sure what we did wrong. Ok, there was a coming together but I think a couple of our players had hit the deck by then so you'd like to think we'd go in there and at least protect [one another]. I thought our players controlled themselves but obviously the FA felt differently.”
On the other side, Mohammed Kudus, who was initially given a yellow card for the incident, ended up receiving a straight red for the scuffle with Tottenham players after a VAR review, for which he will miss three Premier League games. Furthermore, the West Ham footballer was separately charged for improper conduct for an incident after the offence he was dismissed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and if he is proven guilty, there could be extra punishment coming his way on top of his current three-match suspension.
