Cricketers enjoy an immense fan following all-around due to the popularity of the game, and at times cricket fans go to any extent to get close to their favourite cricketers even during the match time. A similar incident occurred with Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan during a group stage clash between Legends of Rupganj and Gazi Group in Dhaka Premier League on April 26 (Tuesday).
The incident occurred when Shakib Al Hasan was on the field during the second innings of the match, as a cricket fan entered the field and ran towards the left-handed all-rounder to take a selfie. Soon after, security officials rushed to catch the intruder, but Rupganj skipper Mashrafe bin Mortaza intervened and stopped the guard and asked them to let go of the fan.
As a result, the cricket fan was freed after taking a selfie with Shakib and left the premise by leaping over the fence. The gesture from both the cricketers, Shakib and Mashrafe, was hailed as they cooperated with the intruder and let him click a selfie with his favourite cricketer.
Speaking of the match, Rupganj's opener Irafan Sukku (29 off 47) and Raqibul Hasan (47 off 56) proved the decision of their skipper of batting first after winning the toss right on the money. Senior batter Sabbir Rahman (90 off 83) and Naeem Islam (42 off 68) too made valuable contributions from the middle order, while Shakib hit a blistering 59 in just 26 balls. For Gazi Group, Khaled Ahmed, Rakibul Atik, and Maraj Mahbub scalped two wickets each, as Rupganj finished on 293/9 in their allotted 50 overs.
In response, Gazi batters could not put in an impressive show as Arafat Sunny Junior (19 off 15 balls), SM Meherob (27 off 56 balls), and Husna Habib Mehedi (32 off 50 balls) were the only batters to cross the double-digit mark. The bowling side completed a dominating show by scalping all ten wickets for only 97 runs.
