Fatima Sana, the Pakistan women’s cricket team captain, will be returning home to Karachi from the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 on the next available flight after her father’s sudden death on Thursday, October 10. After the announcement from the PCB media, it is highly likely that Fatima Sana misses out on playing in the all-important T20 World Cup Group A clash against Australia at the Dubai International Stadium tomorrow evening.
Notably, with the departure of Fatima Sana, her compatriot Muneeba Ali will be taking over the leadership reigns of Pakistan team in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the UAE. The absence of their highly accomplished performer Fatima Sana, it will be quite difficult for Pakistan to win their next two matches against Australia and New Zealand, to give themselves a chance at making it through to the semi-final stage after getting two points in two matches so far.

At the age of 22, Fatima Sana is the youngest among all the captains in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, aiming to take Pakistan to the next level in women’s cricket. On the opening of the tournament, the Women in Maroon got the better of Sri Lanka by 31 runs with a very impressive all-round performance from Fatima Sana, scoring 30 and taking a couple of wickets, which included Chamari Athapaththu’s scalp as well.
But, in their second match of the tournament under Fatima Sana’s leadership, the Pakistan women’s cricket team toiled hard, but ended up losing against the arch-rivals by six wickets with seven balls remaining. She scored a quick-fire 13 in their batting innings, while picking up the key wickets of Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh, but it wasn’t quite enough on the day for her team.
