The ILT20 2025 final between Desert Vipers and Dubai Capitals was quite exciting and wasn't limited to Sikandar Raza's nail-biting final over, but a spicy online banter on the social media account. Afghanistan's Fazalhaq Farooqi has now added fuel to the fire, tweeting a collage on his social media account mocking Pakistan's Mohammad Amir and Sam Curran while praising Gulbadin Naib and his Dubai Capitals teammates.
The Afghan bowler used Twitter to intensify the feud, between Gulbadin and Amir, where he mocked the latter by posting a split-image collage. On one side of the image, Mohammad Amir and Sam Curran can be seen mockingly flexing Naib's biceps, while on the other, Naib poses with the ILT20 Trophy. The caption? A simple yet nasty celebratory message to his Afghan brethren, with the photos doing the talking.
The event that led Fazalhaq Farooqi taking the dig at Mohammad Amir
During the interesting match on Sunday, the Desert Vipers set a tough 189-run target, but Dubai Capitals' Sikandar Raza stole the show by scoring 34 in just 12 balls, which includes a 15-run thrashing of Amir in the last over. However, the Pakistani fast bowler, lost his cool as Raza destroyed his preparations, resulting in a historic Capitals victory.
But the event took a new turn when Amir took the wicket of Gulbadin Naib with a scathing delivery. The Pakistani bowler then copied Naib's trademark bicep-flex celebration, which irritated Naib. However, Naib had the final laugh as his squad won the championship, while Amir's Vipers fell short.
Farooqi's jab on Amir with the image shows Naib's win during the pressure, and meeting social media savagery. During the post-match interview, Naib called out Amir's on-field mocking, " Cricket is a gentleman’s game. If you don’t show respect, no one will respect you either." He further states that the action shown by Amir reflected poorly on his own reputation.
Fazalhaq had a great time playing in ILT20 and presented his best bowling abilities. In 11 matches, he has 21 wickets at an economy rate of 7.57. Moreover, he has a strike rate of 11.00 and top statistics of 5-16 during the competition.
