The biggest stage in women’s football, the Women’s World Cup will be played this year, starting in July. Since 1991, when the first competition, then known as the FIFA Women's World Championship, was held in China, the event is held every four years and one year after the men's FIFA World Cup. This year will mark the ninth edition of the Women’s World Cup.

The tournament will follow the same format as its Men’s counterpart, with each team playing three league games followed by knockouts which will consist of a round of 16, followed by the traditional quarter-final, semi-final and final. The tournament will feature 32 teams divided into eight groups of four teams each. This time, it will be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand. In addition, it will be Oceania's first senior tournament, the Southern Hemisphere's first Women's World Cup, and Asia-Pacific's third senior event.

On July 20, 2023, New Zealand and Norway will play the first game at Eden Park in Auckland. On August 20, 2023, the championship game will be held at Sydney Olympic Stadium in Australia. With victories in the two prior competitions (in 2015 and 2019), the United States are the reigning champions.
