Manchester United’s Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea will miss the Qatar FIFA World Cup after the player missed a place in the 55-member provisional squad. Notably, Gea has not featured in Spain’s match since October 2020 despite having a good season with Manchester United.

The 31-year-old has been left out with the trio of Premier League goalkeepers in Robert Sanchez, David Raya and Kepa being named ahead of him. Although, Athletico Bilbao’s Unai Simon, Brighton’s Robert Sanchez and Brentford’s David Raya are the three main goalkeepers for the Spanish side, Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga and Getafe’s David Soria have been picked as back-ups.

Talking about the performance of the 31-year-old, he has featured in Manchester United’s all 15 games since Erik ten Hag took over, but there are reports of Erik ten Hag searching for a replacement for the Spaniard. The stop-stopper will be out of contract for the United next summer.

While this has been a shocking decision, another surprise came as Sergio Ramos was named in the 55-man provisional squad. Notably, the star footballer who will appear in the World Cup alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, is one who featured in 2006 World Cup. The 36-year-old has been in exile from the national side from last 20 months.

Meanwhile, Spain will be seen in action during their Group E clash against Costa Rica on November 23. The La Roja will then take on Germany on November 27 with their final group clash scheduled for December 1 against Japan.
