It has been an exact one year to a disastrous end of India’s memorable ODI World Cup campaign in 2023. Hosting a 50-over World Cup after 12 years, India were set to repeat the 2011 triumph and lift the World Cup trophy after 12 years. Coming in as favorites, India had a dominant World Cup campaign at home and made it into the final after 10 consecutive wins, including group stage and the semi-final. Now, India were looking like absolute favourites to lift their third ODI World Cup title before they faced the previous five-time champions Australia in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

India already defeated Australia in the group stage and needed just one more push to lift the World Cup title. However, despite dominating the whole tournament, India failed to continue their winning run against Australia and ended up losing the final by six wickets. After Australian pacers including the likes of skipper Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood destroyed the Indian batting lineup, Travis Head came up with a match-defining ton as Australia clinched their sixth ODI World Cup title.
