Matchweek 6 of the top five leagues in Europe saw some thrilling and exciting action as Arsenal and Tottenham battled for glory in the London Derby, only for it to end in a draw, while Atletico Madrid painted the Spanish capital red as they completely outclassed Real Madrid. Barcelona scored three goals in eight minutes to come back after conceding two goals against Celta Vigo.
After the weekend matches, Manchester City sat at the top of the Premier League standings with 18 points, and Barcelona regained the top position in La Liga. Here is a summary of the results of all the important games in Europe over this weekend:
Premier League:
Sheffield United 0:8 Newcastle
Newcastle inflicted a record-breaking 8-0 defeat on a hapless Sheffield United to heap the pressure on Paul Heckingbottom. The Magpies created a new record as they became the first side in the Premier League to have eight different scorers in a game.
Arsenal 2:2 Tottenham
In a highly electric London Derby Arsenal and Spurs shared the spoils as Bukayo Saka and Heung-min Son showed off their class.
Chelsea 0:1 Aston Villa
Aston Villa piled on the woes at Stamford Bridge as Ollie Watkins’ first goal of the season gave Villa the win. The result sees Chelsea languishing in 14th place in the Premier League table with just five points this season despite their heavy investment into the squad over the summer
Liverpool 3:1 West Ham
Mohammad Salah scored the opener in the first half and Jarod Bowen brought West Ham back into the game but second-half goals from Darwin Núñez and substitute Diogo Jota gave Liverpool a comfortable win.
Burnley 0:1 Manchester United
Bruno Fernades’ amazing volley saved Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United as the struggling Reds barely got past one of the worst teams in the league.
Manchester City 2:0 Nottingham Forest
Manchester City equalled their best-ever start to a Premier League season by beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 in an ill-tempered game but will now have to make do without arguably their most influential player for three matches after Rodri was sent off following a moment of madness.
La Liga
Atlético Madrid 3:1 Real Madrid
The Los Blancos were finally exposed this season after many close calls but their new signing Jude Bellingham kept saving them. The midfielder was nowhere to be seen in the Madrid Derby as a toothless Real Madrid was comfortably beaten by Atletico Madrid with Alvaro Morata scoring a brace and Antoine Griezmann getting on the scoresheet as well.
Barcelona 3:2 Celta Vigo
The Blaugrana were miserable for 82 minutes, but sparked into in the final 10, with Robert Lewandowski leading the charge in an incredible comeback to beat a dogged Celta Vigo side 3-2. The duo of Joao and Joao shined as Cancelo scored and assisted while Felix assisted for the opening goal.
Osasuna 0:0 Sevilla
Sevilla and Osasuna played out a dull 0-0 draw.
Girona 5:3 Mallorca
The surprise package of the season is still unbeaten after six games as they beat Mallorca in an eight-goal thriller. The Catalan side have so far drawn against Real Sociedad and beat Sevilla and it remains to be seen if they keep this form for a longer stretch to challenge the big three.
Serie A
Torino 1:1 Roma
Romelu Lukaku continued to shine for Roma as he scored the opener to give Jose Mourinho’s men the lead but Torino came back with an equaliser in the 85th minute through Duvan Zapata.
Bologna 0:0 Napoli
Napoli are seventh in Serie A after a goalless draw against Bologna on Sunday as Victor Osimhen missed a penalty.
Empoli 0:1 Inter Milan
Inter Milan beat bottom-club Empoli 1-0 at Stadio Carlo Castellani to maintain their perfect start to the Serie A season. The win means Simone Inzaghi’s men have won five from five in the league.
Sassuolo 4:2 Juventus
It was a truly miserable showing from Juventus as they handed Sassuolo their 4-2 victory on a plate with everyone misfiring.
AC Milan 1:0 Verona
Rafael Leao returned to goalscoring form after a disappointing Champions League display as he scored the winner against Verona to give Luciano Spalletti his fourth win of the season.
Bundesliga
Bayern Munich 7:0 Vfl Bochum
Harry Kane scored a hat-trick and assisted twice as Bayern Munich ran riot against Bochum. The Bavarians extended their unbeaten start to the Bundesliga season and sit at the top of the Bundesliga table.
Bayer Leverkusen 4:1 Heidenheim
Victor Boniface bagged his fifth and sixth goals of the season as Bayer Leverkusen beat Heidenheim 4-1 at the BayArena to maintain their undefeated start to the campaign and keep the pressure on Bayern Munich at the top of the table.
Borrusia Dortmund 1:0 Wolfsburg
Borussia Dortmund secured a narrow win against VfL Wolfsburg to keep up the pace with their rivals at the top of the Bundesliga standings.
Borrusia Monchengladbach 0:1 RB Leipzig
Former Chelsea forward Timo Werner scored the only goal of the game as Leipzing maintained their position in the top four of the Bundesliga.
Ligue 1
Paris Saint Germain 4:0 Marseile
Randal Kolo Muani scored his first goal in PSG colours and set up another as PSG crushed miserable Marseille 4-0 in Ligue 1. Achraf Hakimi was the star of the day as he fired a brilliant free-kick and assisted two more goals.
Major League Soccer:
Inter Miami 1:1 Orlando City
A game without their star European trio was always going to be tough but Inter Miami held on to a 1-1 draw against second-placed Orlando City to keep their playoff hopes alive.
