Former India stalwarts Shikhar Dhawan and Yuvraj Singh wrote congratulatory posts for Australia's Steven Smith on X after the star player announced his retirement from ODI cricket and made cricket fans emotional. Following Australia’s defeat at the hands of India in the Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final, the Aussie veteran said goodbye to the format. However, the 35-year-old will remain active in Tests which will bring joy to the faces of his supporters. Smith played a lot of competitive cricket against India in his 15-year ODI career. In March 2015, he played a notable innings against the Men in Blue in the World Cup 2015 semi-final in Sydney. In the Aussie side’s 95-run win, Smith played an instrumental role with his 105-run knock off 95 balls.
Steven Smith often saw Shikhar Dhawan in the opposition during Australia’s clash with India. Former India batter, who retired from international cricket in August 2024, took to X after Smith’s announcement and posted a congratulatory note for the Aussie’s illustrious ODI career. He wrote, "Congratulations on all that you have achieved @stevesmith49, you have been a fierce competitor and an incredible leader in the game. May your next journey be just as fulfilling."
Dhawan's teammate Harbhajan Singh also posted a text and picture for Smith on X and wrote, "Well done Champion. Great career. Wish you the best going forward #steavsmith #legend."
Yuvraj Singh penned a note for Smith on X
Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also posted a lengthy note for the legendary Australia player on X. Both Yuvraj and Smith were teammates in IPL 2013 when both served defunct Pune Warriors India together.
