Former Olympic figure skater Alexandra Paul lost her life in a fatal car accident. The Olympian was with her 10-month-old son when she was involved in a seven-car crash. An out-of-control truck crashed through a construction zone and went directly into the queue of waiting cars in Melancthon Township in Ontario.
The 31-year-old lost her life, but her toddler son survived the accident and was immediately sent to a nearby local children’s hospital to be treated. Paul drew curtains on her professional skating career in 2016; before that, she represented Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Not only this, but the former skater had also won three Canadian Championship medals during her career on ice. Skate Canada paid tribute to the former Olympian on social media and official website. They wrote, “It is with a heavy heart that Skate Canada announces the sudden passing of a cherished member of our skating community, Alexandra Paul. A shining star on and off the ice, Alexandra’s dedication, passion, and remarkable talents have left an indelible mark on the world of figure skating.”
The statement further read, “During her illustrious career, Alexandra and partner Mitchell Islam won multiple international medals, claimed three Canadian Championship medals and competed at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. Her commitment to excellence was matched only by her warmth and kindness, which endeared her to fellow athletes, coaches, and fans alike.”
