Former Pakistan Prime Minister and cricket captain Imran Khan has been sentenced to 14 years in jail in the Toshakhana case. Imran was found guilty of corruption in the case involving gifts he received without declaring proceeds for taxes while being the Prime Minister of the country. Khan’s conviction comes a day after he was given a 10-year sentence on a separate charge. He is currently serving a three-year prison term he was sentenced to in August 2023.
The August sentence was also related to selling state gifts, which the court ruled corrupt practices. As per Pakistan’s standard practice, the former cricketer’s 14-year-old term will run concurrently with his 10-year-old term. After the court’s verdict, Khan’s party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) said that the proceedings, "exposed a complete disregard of law by a trial court" and that "such a sham trial belonged to the dustbin".

The 71-year-old has been given the sentence along with his wife Bushra Bibi. Not only this but he has also been fined $2.9 million, roughly ₹24 crore or PKR 787 million. After the verdict, Khan’s party PTI was been banned from functioning altogether in Pakistan, along with the party’s rallies being shut down, a week before the general elections. In a statement, the PTI said, "Another sad day in our judicial system history, which is being dismantled.”
After Imran was sentenced to jail, the International Human Rights Federation said that it was "a disturbing disregard for the basic principles of justice and due process.” Not only this but after he was denied access to his counsel, the International body declared it "a flagrant violation of rights enshrined in international law".
