Frank Lampard is likely to take up the role of interim coach for Chelsea till the end of the ongoing season. Lampard has played for the club for more than a decade and was sacked as the head coach in January 2021. The club owner, Todd Boehly has been on the hunt for a coach after Graham Potter was dismissed after the club’s poor performance in the Premier League.

Lampard, who coached Everton until January, will make his return to Stamford Bridge, where he enjoyed all the love from Chelsea fans during his tenure as a player. Lampard was sacked in January 2021, after he coached 84 matches between  2019–2021 . The English international, who is Chelsea’s all-time top scorer with 211 goals, will be tasked to get the best out of the club’s season after spending almost 300 million pounds in the transfer window.

The early favourites for the full-time role are Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique, but things remain under speculation. Luis Enrique is available after leaving the Spain job, after a disappointing World Cup. Nagelsmann, on the other hand, is available after being sacked by Bayern Munich and is considered as one of the best managers in Europe.

Earlier, it was assistant coach Bruno Saltor who took over the role for Tuesday’s 0-0 home draw with Liverpool. In this fixture, the hosts missed numerous opportunities with the goals of Reece James and Kai Havertz having been disallowed, leading the match to end in a scoreless draw. Both Chelsea and Liverpool, therefore, maintain their positions in the stands at 11th and 8th respectively.
