Manchester United played against Aston Villa on Sunday without their usual captain Bruno Fernandes, who was serving one-game suspension due to his five bookings. Legendary striker Cristiano Ronaldo replaced him as the Red Devils' skipper in their 3-1 Premier League defeat against Aston Villa at the Villa Park.
The hosts managed a two goal lead in the starting 11 minutes of the game as United's only goal was an own goal that came off Luke Shaw's shot before the end of the first half. However, an early goal in the second half from Villa helped them to beat Man United 3-1.
While talking on The Overlap, former Man United captain Gary Neville slammed Cristiano Ronaldo for not acknowledging the loss in front of the media. The former Red Devil said, "He (Ronaldo) went out as the captain of Manchester United and the team lost. Your job is to speak at the end of the match. I’ve been there in that position."
Neville explained, "If you win, the player who scored the goal or the star man goes out and speaks. If you lose, it’s your goalkeeper, it’s your centre-back or it’s your captain. Why did we not hear from him? He should have been there to say, This is what we did wrong today, we’re going to work hard for next week and we’re going to be ready for the next game."
Earlier, the 47-year-old former England player claimed that Manchester United would be better without the 37-year-old and Cristiano Ronaldo snubbed Neville before the Premier League match against West Ham United on October 30.

Neville continued, "I think he should actually speak, no one’s heard him speak for six months, we don’t hear from him. I think the reason why I said previously that Manchester United would be better without him and that he would be better without Manchester United was I expected so much of him because I played with him for six years. You take ownership of what happened. You don’t leave it to other people to answer your stuff for you."
Meanwhile, Manchester United are scheduled to face Aston Villa in a space of five days in the third round of the Carabao Cup 2022-23 on Friday. United midfielder Brun Fernandes will return to the squad and is expected to lead his side against Villa at the Old Trafford.
