Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary called out head coach Gautam Gambhir for his hypocrisy after India recently lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years. Tiwary said that Gambhir hasn’t lived up to the expectations so far since he was appointed as head coach. Apart from that, Tiwary also slammed Gambhir's call to appoint Morne Morkel as bowling coach and Abhishek Nayar as assistant coach. Notably, India haven’t found much success under Gambhir so far. The Men in Blue lost the ODI series against Sri Lanka after 27 years, and were also whitewashed in a home Test series against New Zealand.
Recently, India also failed to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy down under and lost the Test series against Australia after 10 years. “Gautam Gambhir is a hypocrite. He doesn't do what he says. The captain (Rohit) is from Mumbai, and Abhishek Nayar is from Mumbai. Rohit has been pushed to the forefront. There is no one to speak for Jalaj Saxena. He performs well but keeps quiet,” Manoj Tiwary was quoted as saying by Circle of Cricket.
Gambhir didn't guide KKR to the title single-handedly: Manoj Tiwary
Manoj Tiwary was a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders squad that won the IPL title under Gautam Gambhir’s captaincy in 2012. Speaking further, Tiwary also assumed that things are not going right between Gambhir and Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. Tiwary also slammed Gambhir.
“What is the use of a bowling coach? Whatever the coach says, he will agree. Morne Morkel came from Lucknow Super Giants. Abhishek Nayar was at Kolkata Knight Riders with Gambhir and the Indian head coach knows that he will not go against his instructions,” Manoj Tiwary said.
“How will they work together? Rohit is a World Cup-winning captain while Gambhir led KKR to IPL titles both as a captain and mentor. Gambhir didn't guide KKR to the title single-handedly as we all performed as a unit. Jacques Kallis, Sunil Narine, and I, all contributed to the cause. But who took the credit? There is an environment and PR that allows him to take all the credit,” he further added.
