India head coach Gautam Gambhir, who has been under the line of firing, won’t reportedly be fired despite India’s one of the worst seasons. Gambhir, along with senior players including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, has been under heavy scrutiny after India displayed poor performance in recent Test series. Under Gambhir’s guidance, India lost a home Test series after 12 years as they recorded a 0-3 defeat against New Zealand. It was later followed by the Indian team being whitewashed in a Test series at home of three or more matches.

Later, the Indian team lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) after a decade after Australia won the series 3-1 despite winning the first Test by 295 runs. The series saw senior batters including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli failing to perform with the bat. While the Indian captain could make only 31 runs in five innings at an average of 6.2, Kohli came up with 190 runs in nine innings at an average of 23.95. After continuous flop shows, reports of Gambhir’s position in danger started to do rounds on social media. However, as per latest reports, Gambhir as well as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will survive the disastrous run.

Gambhir’s position safe; Rohit, Virat to travel to England: Reports

According to reports by news agency IANS, while there is pressure on the trio, they will survive the disastrous displays in the last few games. Another report by Hindustan Times mentioned that Ajit Agarkar will meet other selectors to “brief his colleagues” about the situation. It is expected to lead to a series of formal and informal meetings between selectors and administrators in coming days to discuss the pressing issues. Coming back to the report by IANS, while the BCCI will hold a review meeting, no one will be ‘fired’.

"Yes, there will be a review meeting but no firing. C'mon, you can't sack a coach for the batters' poor show in one series. Gautam Gambhir will remain the coach, and Virat and Rohit will feature in the England series. The focus is Champions Trophy," a BCCI source told IANS. India will now focus on the forthcoming 2025 Champions Trophy, set to be played next month, following which they will travel to England for a five-match red-ball series.
