South Africa have been handed a massive blow as they will miss the services of Protean pacer Gerald Coetzee in the second Test. The 23-year-old star pacer, who was part of the hosts' mammoth innings and 32-run victory against India in Centurion this week, has been ruled out due to an injury.

The Protea player developed pelvic inflammation during the opening Test and his discomfort got “progressively worse while bowling” in India’s second inning. The release from CSA further revealed the extend of the injury Coetzee has sustained. Coetzee notably just bowled five overs on Day 3 before eventually leaving the field.
“Fast bowler Gerald Coetzee will miss the second Betway Test against India after developing pelvic inflammation during the first Test at SuperSport Park,” Cricket South Africa wrote in its tweet on X.
It is to be noted that the 23-year-old becomes the second player to get ruled out from the Protean squad with injury after Temba Bavuma. The South Africa skipper sustained a hamstring injury on Day 1 of the first Test and thereafter missed the entire match with CSA ruling him out. However, the Protean cricket board hasn’t named Coetzee’s replacement.
South Africa’s squad for 2nd Test:
David Bedingham, Nandre Burger, Tony de Zorzi, Dean Elgar (C), Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, Keegan Petersen, Kagiso Rabada, Tristan Stubbs, Kyle Verreynne, Zubayr Hamza.
