Spanish defender Gerard Pique has been making the headlines for his antics off the field this year as he got divorced from his wife and pop star Shakira. But the Barcelona defender has been in the news once again for something extremely scary regarding one of his investment ventures in Spain.
Pique had recently invested in a project to build a luxury hotel in Malaga, where he spent around $20m (£17.7m) to purchase the property located on the Costa del Sol. However, the project has been halted after hitting an unexpected roadblock.
As per the Spanish publication Marca, 250 graves have been found on the property. The research will be carried out to determine from what time frame the graves are from. An archaeologist called Alberto Cumpian talked about the situation and expressed that the graveyard could be one of the ‘ largest necropolises in the country’
"We have excavated about 250 tombs, of which the vast majority are empty," Cumpian explained to Hoy por hoy Malaga. "Possibly, the tombs were never used, and are not valuable enough to be preserved. It is one of the largest necropolises in the country."
Alberto Cumpian also expressed that the project is set to be given the green light to move ahead in January 2023. He believes that there should be no further complications in their bid to build something at the property.
Talking about Pique, the veteran defender may be playing one of his last seasons as he made several moves for his life after his retirement. The 35-year-old is under contract with Barcelona until the summer of 2024 but there have been multiple talks of the defender leaving the Blaugrana as the club is already dealing with a lot of financial issues. In their recent fixture, Barca registered a 1-0 win over Valencia thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s late goal in extra-time.
