After a disappointing FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign with Germany, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer suffered a lower leg fracture while skiing and has undergone surgery. This medical procedure, according to his Instagram post, will rule him out for the remainder of the season.
Neuer has already missed several games for Bayern with a shoulder injury in October when Sven Ulreich took his place. But he recovered in time for the World Cup. The goalkeeper shared an Instagram post on Saturday, where he stated that he underwent surgery on Friday. The post shows a photo of Neuer in a hospital bed with his right leg in a cast and left hand bandaged.
The caption of the Instagram post said, "Hey guys, what can I say, the end of the year could have definitely gone better... While I was trying to get my head clear while ski touring, I suffered a lower leg fracture. Yesterday's surgery went well. Many thanks to the doctors! However, it hurts to know that the current season is over for me. Take care! Your Manuel."
Manuel Neuer was on a flight home early from the World Cup after Germany failed to make it out of the group stage. Hansi Flick’s men registered four points from three matches and finished below Japan and Spain. This was Germany's second consecutive Group Stage exit from the World Cup.
Talking about Bayern Munich, the German defending champions are leading the Bundesliga by four points in the league’s winter break. The league is set to resume on January 20 when Bayern Munich will take RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena. Whereas taking a look at Neuer’s replacement, Sven Ulreich has looked decent for the Bavarians in the chances he got so far in the season. The 34-year-old has registered five clean sheets while conceding six goals in eight games across three competitions.
