Star Australia batter Glenn Maxwell marked his return to Punjab Kings (PBKS) after five years with his appearance against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match, getting played in Ahmedabad. In their first game, Punjab lost the toss to the hosts and put to bat first. Punjab lost their opener Prabhsimran Singh early but Priyansh Arya, who is playing his debut game in the league, exuded confidence with his bat and gave a fine start to his side. Along with his captain Shreyas Iyer, he stitched a 51-run partnership off just 21 deliveries. Priyansh departed after scoring 47 off 23 as Rashid Khan stepped up and got him caught at the hands of Sai Sudharsan.
In the 11th over of the match, Maxwell came at the crease and he was expected to produce massive hits from his bat. However, Sudharsan trapped him in front of stumps and forced the Aussie to walk back to the dugout with a duck. The veteran got dismissed by lbw on his first delivery. Maxwell’s dismissal rankled several cricket fans as they took to social media and vented out their anger. An X user named Binod displayed resentment and wrote, “Glenn Maxwell is the biggest fraud in IPL #GTvsPBKS.”
Maxwell registers unwanted record in IPL 2025 vs GT
With his failure against GT, Maxwell has now added an embarrassing feat to his profile. The right-handed batter has surpassed Dinesh Karthik to own the record of most IPL ducks. It was the 19th time he walked back to the pavilion without scoring any runs in the distinguished league.
PBKS have delivered a target of 244 runs to the home side. Captain Iyer registered his best IPL score as he notched up an unbeaten 97* off 42. For Gujarat, Sudharsan looked disciplined with the ball as he grabbed 3/30 figures in his four-over spell.
