T he Australian team has suffered a major as their star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the three-match T20I series against South Africa. The 34-year-old has aggravated his left ankle which has led to the pro missing out the three T20Is. It is to be noted that Australia is set to play South Africa in a three-match T20I series, starting August 30 followed by a five-match ODI series.
With the ODI World Cup just in a months' time, Maxwell’s inclusion in the ODI series as well ODI World Cup in India now remains in a fix. It is to be further added that Maxwell sustained his ankle injury in team’s first training session in Durban. While the all-rounder was set to leave the tour after the T20I series for the birth of his first child before rejoining the side in India, it all remains under cloud.
“We are taking a precautionary approach, given Glenn was heading home next week in any case,” Australia selector Tony Dodemaide quoted. He further added, “We will monitor Glenn’s recovery with a view to him being available for the three-match ODI series in India in advance of the World Cup.”
However, Cricket Australia has named Matthew Wade as Maxwell’s replacement for the T20I series against South Africa.
