Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan opened up about MS Dhoni handing over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the IPL 2024. The five-time IPL winners dropped a bombshell on fans on the eve of the tournament by announcing Gaikwad as the new CSK captain. The first announcement was made on the official handles of IPL, where Gaikwad was seen along with the other captains during the photoshoot before the commencement of the tournament.
The announcement came as a shock for the fans and spread like wildfire within no time. A few minutes later CSK confirmed the same by releasing an official statement. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan also opened up on the same and claimed that he got to know about the decision moments before the captains’ photoshoot. Vishwanathan told PTI, “Whatever Dhoni does, it is in the best interest of the team. I got to know of the decision just before the captains' meeting. You have to respect his decision, it is his call.”

CSK Head Coach Stephen Fleming opened up on MS Dhoni’s decision to pass on the baton to Gaikwad and said that the franchise aims to develop young players for the role. Fleming told PTI, “We weren't ready to move away from MS in 2022. Dhoni has a good sense of the game, but we want to develop the young players for the role. We are well prepared this time.”
Fleming also confirmed that MS Dhoni will play the entire season as he is in better health than last year. Fleming added, “Expecting MS to play the whole season. His body is much better from last season.”
