Afghanistan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib responded to Ravichandran Ashwin’s ‘red card’ remark on his hamstring injury act during the Super 8 clash against Bangladesh. Afghanistan made it to their first-ever World Cup semifinal on the back of a wonderful win over Bangladesh after they caused one of the biggest upsets and defeated Australia earlier in T20 World Cup 2024. During the game, the Afghan all-rounder was seen faking a hamstring injury which caught the attention of fans and experts alike as the cricketer received heavy criticism.
After several interruptions, Afghanistan prevailed by eight runs to make it to their maiden semifinals, but Naib’s act became one of the major talking points during and after the match. As several fans and experts responded to Naib’s act, Indian spinning wizard Ravichandran Ashwin also took a cheeky dig at Naib. He took to X to write, “Red card for Gulbadin Naib” along with a few laughing emoticons.

The Afghanistan player came up with a hilarious reply to Ashwin’s tweet and gave a Bollywood reference in his answer. Naib reshared the Indian cricketer’s tweet and wrote, “Kabi khushi kabi gham mai huta hai. Hamstring.” After the match, Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan sought to play down the incident and said, "Well, he had some cramp.”
Khan added, “I don't know what happened to him and I don't know what's going on in social media but that doesn't matter - it's just the end field injury which comes and then we haven't lost any overs, the rain came and we just went off, it's not something like brought a massive difference in the game. We came back on field after five minutes and there was no massive difference. For me, it's just like a small injury comes in, then you have to take some time."
