Punjab all-rounder, Gurkeerat Mann on Friday, November 10 announced his retirement from all forms of the game. The Indian cricketer, who has played three ODIs for the Men in Blue, took to social media to call off his time. It is to be noted that the 33-year-old gained the limelight in 2011, followed by getting an India call-up in 2015.
He found a place for himself in India’s Test squad for the home series against South Africa in 2015 but did not get a chance to feature in the XI. However, his debut in the Indian colours took place in India’s ODI series against Australia, early in January 2016 in Melbourne.
“Today marks the end of an incredible cricketing journey for me. It has been an honour and a privilege to represent India. My heart is filled with gratitude for the support from my family, friends, coaches and my fellow players. Each one of you played a pivotal role in my career”, he wrote on Instagram while calling off his career.
The 33-year-old Indian cricketer further extended his gratitude to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) for their support. “I would also like to thank BCCI and PCA for their constant support, guidance and encouragement I’ve got throughout my journey. Here’s to the next chapter”, he further added.
Several members of the cricketing fraternity took to his post to congratulate Mann on his career. “Learned a lot from you paji, true inspiration, good luck for the next chapter mann bhaiya,” wrote Mayank Markhade. Nehal Wadhera, Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Rahul Tewatia also shared their wishes for the Indian cricketer.
The Punjab cricketer has also played the richest T20 league, the Indian Premier League (IPL) for his home side, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and the Royal Challenger Bangalore (RCB). In 2021, he was signed as a replacement for injured Rinku Singh by the Kolkata Knight Riders.
