Fans took to social media to send in their best wishes to veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan as he announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket. Dhawan, who has been ousted from the Indian cricket team for more than a year now, called time on his 14-year long international career on the morning of Saturday, August 24. The 38-year-old cricketer shared a social media post and dropped a shock bomb on fans.

Dhawan was last featured in a competitive game in April 2024, where he led Indian Premier League franchise Punjab Kings. The cricketer had recorded 24 international centuries, including 17 in ODIs and seven in Tests, across 269 matches. Along with several other achievements, Dhawan is one of the only eight batters in the ODI format with over 5000 runs at a 40-plus average and a 90-plus strike rate.

As Dhawan, fondly called Gabbar by fans and cricketing fraternity, announced his retirement, fans took to social media to thank him for his contributions for Indian cricket.

The cricketer hasn’t played for India since the ODI series against Bangladesh in December 2022.
