With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) set to announce the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, there have been speculations of who and who could not make it to the best 15. However, some reports suggest Rishabh Pant to be the sole wicketkeeper-batter in the flight to the USA and Caribbean, a few others claimed that Sanju Samson can also join him for the marquee event.
But as of now the biggest question arises is who will be Rohit Sharma’s deputy for the T20 World Cup 2024. While wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant previously held the post of deputy before being forced into a long hiatus after surviving a near-fatal accident in December 2022. But, SportsTiger sources have confirmed that it will be Hardik Pandya who will serve as Rohit’s deputy for the marquee event, set to be played in the Caribbean and United States.
BCCI to make tough call on wicketkeeper-batters, all-rounders
With the national selector scheduled to meet on Tuesday, ahead of announcing the squad for the T20 World Cup by May 1, they have a few discussions to make. According to several reports, the BCCI and the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will have to make a tough call on the wicketkeeping option with Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Sanju Samson, all looking good.
However, Pant makes to be an obvious pick, the selection will be from KL Rahul and Sanju Samson, who are leading their respective IPL franchises in the 2024 edition. Not only this, but there have also been talks around all-rounders. "Among other selection issues, the top order will consist of skipper Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav. The middle order will feature Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja. One or both of Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh will be there, along with either Sanju Samson or KL Rahul," a report added.
