Harmanpreet Kaur stated that she doesn’t want India to see her tears after losing in the Women's T20 World Cup 2023 semi-final. The Indian team suffered a heartbreaking loss against Australia as they were one hit away from a stunning victory. After a poor bowling display, the Indians counter-attacked incredibly thanks to a brilliant batting display by captain Kaur.
She scored an incredible 52 in 34 balls as India was cruising to a massive upset chasing the total for 173 runs. But Harmanpreet Kaur got out because of a bizarre runout after which team India suffered a batting collapse and lost the game by five runs. In the post-game interview, Kaur specially wore sunglasses as she didn’t want her country to see her tears.
Harmanpreet Kaur further went on to say that the team will definitely improve and never put India in this condition. She said, “I don't want my country to see me crying, hence I am wearing these glasses, I promise, we will improve and won't let out nation down like this again.”
Further in her post-match interview, Kaur praised her batting partner Jemimah Rodrigues, who batted incredibly well and put up a crucial knock of 43 runs in 24 balls. Kaur said, “Need to give credit to Jemi for the way she batted today. She got us the momentum we were looking for. Happy to see such performances. Happy to see them play their natural game.”
The Indian captain then talked about the reasons behind their defeat by stating how the team was playing to its strength. Kaur pointed out the misfields and dropped catches and stated that the team will learn from these mishaps. She said, “We didn't play to our strengths, we reached the semis. We gave those easy catches away. Got to take those when you want to win. We misfielded. We can only learn from these lessons and not repeat the mistakes.”
