Harry Brook was appointed the new white-ball captain of England on Monday, April 7, replacing Jos Buttler, who had quit from the job after a poor ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign under him. In one of his latest interviews after taking over the new role, the 26-year-old spoke about how England is the way forward for him, and with that, the franchise cricket can almost take a step back for him for a little while.

Notably, prior to getting handed the responsibility of England white-ball teams, Harry Brook had pulled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after getting signed by Delhi Capitals (DC) for INR 6.25 crore contract. Since this was the second straight year when Harry Brook decided to give a skip to the IPL for different reasons, he has been banned from the league for two years.

England is the way forward for me and franchise cricket can almost take a step back: Harry Brook

While speaking to BBC Sport about his immediate future after getting appointed as the captain of England in white-ball cricket, Harry Brook remarked, “England is the way forward for me and franchise cricket can almost take a step back for a little while. I enjoy playing cricket for England more than anything else, so to lose a little bit of money here and there - I'd take that any day to play for England.”

Since Harry Brook is also an integral part of England’s Test team, the workload will be immense on him to play all formats of the game on a regular basis, something he acknowledged before saying, “there might be a couple of opportunities to have a little break here and there”. England are slated to play a white-ball series against West Indies at home in June, which will kick-start the 26-year-old’s tenure as captain.
