Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since the very first season which was way back in 2008. In fact, Dhoni has been leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since the first edition of the IPL and is still at the helm of affairs for Chennai. But as it’s said, “everything must come to an end” and Dhoni’s IPL career has reached that stage.

The veteran wicketkeeper batter is on the verge of hanging his boots but no one can predict when it is going to happen. However, experts are claiming that this edition of the IPL might be Dhoni’s swansong. But current India and Mumbai Indians captain, Rohit Sharma feels otherwise.

When asked how it feels knowing this might be Dhoni’s last IPL, Rohit said he has been hearing such claims for two-three years now. The MI captain further stated that Dhoni is fit enough and he expects the veteran cricketer to continue playing.

"I've been hearing this for the last 2-3 years. He is fit enough and still playing and will continue to play,” said Rohit at the MI pre-season press conference.

The Mumbai Indians captain then also shed light on his journey with the franchise so far. Rohit said that he has thoroughly enjoyed the moments with MI and is thankful for the opportunities he has gotten here. “I have enjoyed each & every moment with this team & been given great opportunities. I've grown as a player & an individual,” said Rohit.

Mumbai Indians kick off their IPL 2023 campaign on 2 April with a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Meanwhile, they will face their arch-rivals, CSK on 8 April at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
