Seeing Virat Kohli struggle with the bat in the Adelaide Test despite a brilliant record at the venue, legendary West Indies fast bowler Andy Roberts has shared a piece of advice for the struggling batter. Notably, the five-match BGT Test series is of utmost importance for the Men in Blue as they see to make third straight appearance in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, set to take place in June 2025.
However, Virat Kohli returned to form as he scored an unbeaten 100 in the second innings of the Perth Test, but failed to replicate the performance from there in the Adelaide Test, registering scores of seven and 11 across the two innings. Seeing this, Andy Roberts spoke of Kohli’s struggles in Test cricket in past five years, and opined that he needs to focus on the format in order to return to form.
He needs to be focused on the longer version of the game: Andy Roberts on Kohli
Speaking to Mid-Day, the legendary West Indian pacer said, “I don’t know if there will be a revival after the Adelaide defeat, but get your batting right. One of your best batsmen of all-time has been struggling for the last five years.” “He needs to be focused on the longer version of the game. You will get runs and score heavily in Test cricket only when you are fully focused on the longer form. The standard of Test cricket is not the same. The top batsmen look as if they are struggling,” Roberts added.
Notably, since 2020, Virat Kohli has scored only 1961 runs in 36 matches at an average of 32.14. During this time, he has scored three hundred and registered nine fifty-plus scores. Heading into the crucial five-match Test series, Virat Kohli scored only 93 runs in the last series, where India was whitewashed for the first time in a home Test series consisting of three matches.
