Indian cricketer Rinku Singh’s father opened up about his son’s omission from the T20 World Cup 2024 squad. He said that while Rinku isn’t heartbroken, the news has surely left him upset. Not only this, Khanchandra Singh also revealed that they had kept the sweets and crackers ready. The Board of Contol for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s 15-member squad that will participate in the marquee tournament in the USA and West Indies.
While the 26-year-old Rinku hasn’t been included in the main squad, he is a part of the reserved team along with Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed. After the squad announcement, Rinku’s father told Bharat 24 that the young KKR batter was disappointed with his snub, as they all were very hopeful.
He was upset, he was talking to his mother: Rinku Singh’s father
He said, "There were hopes but there were disappointments as well. We had got sweets and firecrackers with the hope that he would feature in the playing XI. Still, we are very happy.” He added, “He was upset, he was talking to his mother. It is not like his heart has been broken. He was telling to his mother that he would be going with the team, but has not featured in the 15-member squad.”
Rinku Singh should have been there, even if it meant dropping Yashasvi Jaiswal: Kris Srikkanth
Former India cricketer Kris Srikkanth slammed the selectors for not selecting Rinku Singh in the 15-member squad. Srikkanth said Rinku should have been picked even if it meant dropping star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel, “Rinku Singh has been spoken about all over the world. He has performed in every opportunity he has got. How can you drop Rinku Singh? You drop anyone else, it doesn't matter. In my view, Rinku Singh should have been there, even if that meant you had to drop Yashasvi Jaiswal.”
He added, “He has given his all whenever he played for India. This is rubbish, rubbish selection. Why do you need 4 spinners? All of them have to go? You have made the selection to please a few people and you have made Rinku Singh a scapegoat."
