The England batting superstar Joe Root has been under severe criticism from fans and experts after he lost his wicket trying to reverse scoop Jasprit Bumrah on Day 3 of the third Test against India in Rajkot. However, the former England captain Nasser Hussain indicated that critics held their horses before backing Joe Root to make a resounding comeback.
England were in control of the match at 224/2 when the key wicket of Joe Root fell in the 40th over, who brought out his trademark reverse scoop against Jasprit Bumrah, only to find Yashasvi Jaiswal in the slips. From that point onwards, the England batting innings fell away, getting bundled out for 319 runs in the 72nd over, conceding a big first innings lead of 126 runs at the Niranjan Shah Stadium.
During his recent podcast appearance on Sky Cricket, Nasser Hussain analysed the dismissal of Joe Root, and the criticism directed at him in the immediate aftermath. He said, “When he (Joe Root) is playing those reverse scoops first ball of the day of an Ashes game and it goes for six, we all jump up and applaud and go ‘wow, Joe Root’. And when he does it to Bumrah and gets out, we go ‘What a disgrace, you shouldn’t be playing that shot, you are Joe Root’.”
The 55-year-old also shared his remarks about how Joe Root will assess his dismissal, and he will make a comeback in the ongoing five-match Test series. He stated, “Bazball is about being attacking but it is also about soaking up pressure. Get Bumrah into his second or third spell, take it deep, and then play the shot later in the day. Joe will assess his dismissal himself. That's what makes him a great player. He’ll come back. He’ll be absolutely fine.”
