Zion Williamson-led New Orleans Pelicans defeated Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday in the NBA 2022-23 regular season fixture at the Smoothie King Center to claim the top spot in the Western Conference standings. Pelicans forward Zion Williamson registered his career high 43 points to help his team claim a one-point victory over the Wolves.

Minnesota led the game by six points at the end of the first half, however, the Pelicans bounced back in the third quarter and reduced the lead by four points to ultimately claim the victory in the final quarter of the game.

During the last minute of the fourth quarter, Zion Williamson stole the ball from Jaden McDaniels, who received a sloppy pass from D'Angelo Russell, and went on to give a crucial two-point lead to his team in the dying moments of the game.

When asked about Zion's spectacular play in the last minute of the game, Wolves guard D'Angelo said in a post-match conference, " He ran through my guy, took the ball. He's playing football, we playing basketball. We can't touch him or guard him. So, good for him. "

With the win on Wednesday night, New Orleans Pelicans joined Nikola Jokic-led Denver Nuggets at the top of the Western Conference standings with 22 wins in 34 matches so far in the league. This was the Pelicans fourth straight victory in the NBA 2022-23 regular season and will next host Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night.
