The Indian Premier League (IPL), which is considered the top franchise-based T20 cricket league in the world is set to start its 2025 campaign on March 22. This tournament will feature 10 teams competing across 74 matches over a span of approximately two months and this will be the 18th edition of this prestigious tournament.

Mumbai Indians have been one of the most successful teams in this competition having won the prestigious title on five occasions. The highest ever score by Mumbai Indian in the IPL came on 27 April 2024 when MI were chasing a total of 257 set by DC. Young Delhi Capitals batter Jake Fraser-McGurk put up a show scoring 84 off just 27 deliveries at a massive strike rate of 311. He even scored one of the fastest 50s in the IPL in just 15 balls. Middle order batsmen for MI, Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya played good innings of 63 and 46 respectively. Tim David also came in at the end to hit a 17-ball 37 but it wasn’t enough to take Mumbai Indians over the line.

The second on the list is the encounter between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad on 27 March 2024. This was the match where MI registered their second highest ever score of 246 with blistering innings of 64 and 42 from Tilak Varma and Tim David respectively. Romario Shepherd also came in as an impact player at the end to add a quick 15 runs to the tally with 2 fours and 1 six at a mammoth strike rate of 250. Alas the result of the match was one that MI would like to forget as they were chasing an even bigger total of 277 set by SRH. This included three smashing innings of Travis Head ( 62 off 24), Abhishek Sharma (63 off 23) and Heinrich Klassen (80 off 34).

We have another MI vs SRH match in this list with MI scoring their third highest score of 235 against the Sunrisers on 8 October 2021 in Abu Dhabi with the IPL being held there due to Covid-19. Spectacular innings from Ishan Kishan, who scored 84 of 32 balls and Suryakumar Yadav who scored 82 of 40 balls, helped MI put such a massive score on the board. SRH tried chasing down the target but Manish Pandey’s unbeaten knock of 69 went in vain as they were restricted to 193/8 in the 20 overs.

The fourth highest total for Mumbai Indians is against the Delhi Capitals. MI recorded a first innings score of 234 against DC on 7 April 2024 at the Wankhede Stadium. Brilliant knocks from Rohit Sharma (49 off 27), Ishan Kishan (42 off 23) and skipper Hardik Pandya (39 off 33) had already put MI in a solid position. But as icing to the cake, Tim David came in to hit a quick-fire 45 off 21 deliveries and Romario Shepherd ended the innings, smashing 39 off just 10 balls. DC gave an equal fight to MI with Tristan Stubbs scoring a brilliant unbeaten 71 off just 25 deliveries but it wasn’t enough as they were restricted to 205/8 in 20 overs.

The fifth highest total for MI is against Kings XI Punjab, which came on 11 May 2017. KXIP had put up a massive score of 230 on the board with Wriddhiman Saha scoring a fabulous unbeaten 93. Glenn Maxwell also registered a cracking 47 off 21 balls. Openers Lendl Simmons, who made 59 off 32 deliveries and Parthiv Patel, who scored 38 off 23 gave MI a solid start. Even the hard-hitters Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya came in at the end to deliver knocks of 50 and 30 respectively but all of this wasn’t enough as MI fell short of 7 runs in the chase.
