In the eighth fixture of the Indian Premier League, action moved to the Rajiv Gandhi Intern ational Stadium as the SunRisers Hyderabad hosted Mumbai Indians on March 27, Wednesday. The high-voltage clash kicked off with Mumbai’s captain  Hardik Pandya winning the toss and opting to bowl first. Hyderabad made the most of the opportunity to play at home and dominated their counterparts right from the first over. The Wednesday night clash saw the Orange Army batters unleashing their inner beasts and proved to be dominating from the beginning. 

The clash turned out to be an exciting encounter, owing to some of the blistering innings played by the Hyderabad batters. Apart from this, the night witnessed several new records being created. Some of them are: 

Former Mumbai Indians captain  Rohit Sharma became the third player to play the most matches for a franchise in IPL as he made his 200th appearance for MI. 

SunRisers Hyderabad posted a mammoth total of 277 runs with the loss of three wickets, the highest-ever total in the history of the IPL. It was followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore’s total of 263 with five wickets loss against Pune Warriors India in 2013.

South African youngster Kwena Maphaka made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians and became the youngest player at the age of 17 years and 354 days to debut for MI in the cash-rich league. The previous youngest payer to play for MI in IPL was Saurabh Tiwary when he was featured vs PBKS in 2008 at the age of 18 years and 117 days.

  

SunRisers Hyderabad recorded their highest-ever powerplay total in the history of the IPL with 81 runs at the loss of one wicket.

Travis Head recorded the fastest fifty for SRH in IPL in just 18 balls, before the record was broken by his teammate Abhishek Sharma. Sharma recorded the fastest-ever fifty from just 16 balls. 

Abhishek Sharma joined Suresh Raina and Ishan Kishan to record half-century in 16 balls in the IPL. All three players currently sit at the fourth spot in the standings of fastest IPL half-centuries. 

The Orange Army posted the highest score in the first 10 overs in 17 years of the tournament with their score of 142 runs with the loss of two wickets. 

Maphaka’s bowling figures were 4-0-66-0, which is the most expensive spell on IPL debut, and he surpassed, Michael Neser’s record of  0/62 for PBKS vs RCB in Mohali in 2013.

The 17-year-old became the third player to deliver the worst spell in IPL history, joining the likes of Basil Thampi, Yash Dayal, and more. 

A total of 18 sixes were smashed during Hyderabad’s innings against Mumbai, which is the third-highest number of maximums in a match.
