Lionel Messi fever has taken over the US, with many celebrities congratulating the Barcelona legend on joining the MLS. The Inter Miami players are also star-struck from meeting with the Argentine as Inter Miami full-back revealed that he comfortably speaks English with everyone.
Lionel Messi’s English has been a topic of conversation for many years, with the Argentine mostly speaking his mother tongue publicly, Spanish. The Barcelona legend learned Catalan during his time at Barcelona but wasn’t seen speaking English till January this year. In a viral video, Messi was seen speaking English for the first time at an event with Marco Verratti.
Now, Inter Miami player DeAndre Yedlin has revealed that Messi talks to everyone in the Inter Miami squad in English. Yedlin told Felipe Cardenas, “His English is enough to get by. He talks to everyone.” He further said that Messi easily arranged tickets for an event as he said, “I didn’t know Messi was in the group chat. Campana needed tickets for the event on Sunday. Messi popped in 'How many do you need?'”
New Inter Miami signing Diego Gomez, 20, a Paraguayan No. 8, said Tata Martino’s influence was key to his signing. Gomez also expressed his fanaticism about playing with Messi, “I’m speechless. I don’t know what to say. Look, I have goosebumps.”
Lionel Messi’s arrival in the MLS could change the nature of the game in the country with football being not so popular before his arrival. To demonstrate this, Inter Miami now has more Instagram followers than the historic Italian club Inter Milan which will benefit their sponsorships. Messi, who was presented to a crowd of 20,000 Inter Miami fans is likely to debut for the club in the inter-continental Leagues Cup match against Liga MX's Cruz Azul on Friday, July 21.
