When Yash Dayal was on his bowling mark for Gujarat Titans, defending 27 runs off the last 5 balls, he never would have thought of being on the losing side at the end. But Rinku Singh of Kolkata Knight Riders had other ideas as he smashed him for 5 consecutive sixes to hand his team a very unlikely win. In the immediate aftermath, Yash Dayal was visibly shaken at the ground in Ahmedabad and his family at home in Prayagraj were no different.
Yash Dayal’s father, Chandrapal Dayal, talked about the experience with PTI and called it nightmarish. He mentioned that Yash’s mom, Radha Dayal was inconsolable and stopped eating after what had transpired at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Chandrapal, who himself got smashed for 3 sixes in one over during his playing days for North Zone Universities in Vizzy Trophy, was quoted as saying, “These are the moments sport is made up of. Even in life you come across failures, it's important to stand up stronger.”
When Chandrapal Dayal got hold of his son on call, he learnt that Yash wasn’t able to bowl normally in that situation. “He (Yash Dayal) told me that somehow the ball was slipping out and he was not having a proper grip on the night as he missed his yorkers. Even he tried a slower one from the back of his hand that too was smashed," he added.
Furthermore, Yash Dayal’s father thought that Rinku Singh’s familiarity with his son’s bowling didn’t help the cause either. “He (Rinku Singh) just had to smash every ball and they know each other well. It may have come handy for Rinku and it was simply not his day. Many great cricketers (Chetan Sharma) has gone through this,” Chandrapal Dayal continued.
Chandrapal Dayal also thanked the Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya and the entire team for sticking by his son’s side in these tough moments. He told PTI, “They made him sit in the centre and consoled him. Later, there was naach-gaana (dance, music), they spent some light moments with him.”
