The entire fan-base of Mumbai Indians is erupting with excitement as the Mumbai franchise posted a photo on their official X account showing the arrival of one particular player. And that player is none other than fan-favorite Rohit Sharma. With only 3 days to go for the start of the 2025 IPL season, all the teams are bringing together all of their squad players and kicking off preparations for this upcoming season. Sharma, who recently won the Champions Trophy with the Indian team has finally arrived at the Mumbai camp and will join the rest of the players. He has been the face of the Mumbai side ever since he arrived in the team in 2011.
In 2013, Sharma took over the MI captaincy mid-season, a decision that would shape IPL history. Under his calm and strategic leadership, MI clinched their first-ever IPL title that year. Over the years, Sharma led MI to five IPL titles (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020), making them the joint-most successful franchise in IPL history alongside Chennai Super Kings. His captaincy prowess was evident in his ability to handle pressure and bring out the best in players like Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Ishan Kishan.
A look at Rohit Sharma’s glorious IPL career
Rohit Sharma made his IPL debut in 2008 with the Deccan Chargers and was part of their 2009 title-winning squad. However, the real turning point came in 2011, when he was bought by Mumbai Indians. This move would define both his career and the franchise’s future. While his leadership made headlines, Sharma's batting remained a force to be reckoned with. Known for his effortless six-hitting ability and elegant and seemingly effortless batting style, he has amassed over 6,200 runs in IPL history. His highest score in the tournament is an unbeaten 109 against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012.
With over 80 wins as captain, Sharma boasts one of the best win percentages in IPL history. His calm demeanor, tactical brilliance, and ability to inspire players make him an icon of the league. Although he won’t be assuming a leadership role with MI this season, he is coming off a massive trophy haul in the last one year; winning the T20 World and the Champions Trophy and it will be interesting to see how he plays in this upcoming IPL edition.
