The Indian hockey team on Thursday, August 8 clinched bronze after they had suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Germany in the semi-final at the Paris Olympics 2024. The Tokyo 2020 Olympics bronze medallist must have extended their 44-year wait to clinch the gold at the Summer Games, they got their hands on the bronze medal after they defeated Spain 2-1 at the Stade Yves-du-Manoir on Thursday.
Although, the Harmanpreet Singh-led team was behind a goal in the second quarter, they made a great comeback to take home their second straight bronze medal at the Olympic Games in men’s hockey. After their historic win at the Summer Games, the Indian hockey association, Hockey India announced a reward for the side.
Hockey India announces INR 15 Lakh for each player; INR 7.5 Lakh for support staff
Following their bronze medal win at the Paris Olympics 2024, Hockey India announced a cash prize for the players and the members of the support staff. In the announcement, Hockey India declared INR 15 Lakh prize money to each player who was part of the Paris Olympics 2024, whereas the support staff will be awarded INR 7.5 Lakh each.
Taking to X, Hockey India wrote, “Hockey India announces cash prize of ₹15 Lakhs each for all the players & ₹ 7.5 Lakhs each for the support staff for their bronze medal winning performance at the Paris Olympics.”
It is to be noted that this win marks of India’s continuous success in hockey, following a 41-year draught of an Olympics medal, which ended at the Tokyo 2020 Games. The bronze medal win at the Paris Olympics now adds to India’s 13 medal victories, which includes eight golds, one silver and four bronzes.
