Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill surprised fellow GT player Robin Minz’s father, Francis, at the Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi, on Wednesday. Gill took time to meet Francis who has been working as a security official at the airport. Gill was departing Ranchi after India’s fourth Test against England, and he took the opportunity to meet his IPL franchise GT’s recruit Robin Minz’s father, a retired Army man.
Gill is set to lead Gujarat Titans for the first time in IPL 2024 after Hardik Pandya was traded back to Mumbai Indians. The youngster took to special media to share a photograph of his meeting with Francis Xavier Minz. He praised Francis’ effort to support Robin’s dreams. Notably, Robin is set to become the first trivial man to represent a team in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was bought by the 2022 champions for INR 3.60 crores in the bidding war.

Gujarat Titans’ new captain Shubman Gill shared a picture of his meeting with Francis and praised him for his effort and hard work. Sharing the picture on his Instagram story, Gill wrote, "Honoured to meet Robin Minz's father. Your journey and hard work have been inspiring. Looking forward to seeing you in the IPL.” Talking about Minz’s bid, his base price was INR 20 lakh, but in an intense bidding war, GT came out on top and purchased him for INR 3.6 crore, 18 times his base price.
Robin caught everyone’s attention last year when he scored 73* off 35 balls during the Invitational T20 tournament in Odisha. The 21-year-old has also played for Jharkhand U19 and U25 teams. In the past, he was on trial with teams like Lucknow Supergiants, Delhi Capitals, MI and KKR, but remained unsold in the 2023 auction.
