The Indian MMA star, Puja Tomar is set to become the first fighter from her country to debut in UFC after signing with the promotion last year. Following the big announcement, Sean Strickland and Nina-Marie Daniele aka Nina Drama shared their first thoughts on X, with the latter hoping for the MMA to keep on growing in India.
A veteran MMA journalist, Chamatakar Sandhu broke the news on his official X account, stating that Puja Tomar, who is the first Indian female fighter signed in UFC history, will make her debut in the promotion against the Brazilian Rayanne dos Santos. Her fight will go down at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky, on June 8th during the UFC Fight Night card.
Nina-Marie Daniele quoted the post from the veteran MMA journalist on X, talking about how Puja Tomar’s upcoming UFC debut is an awesome news while hoping for the growth of combat sports in India. Her comment on the social media platform read, “This is awesome! Hope MMA keeps growing in INDIA”.
A few short hours later, Sean Strickland, the former UFC Middleweight champion, had his own thoughts about the progress of MMA in India amidst the announcement of Puja Tomar’s slated debut in the UFC. The 33-year-old joked about how he dreams of a world where all Indians become UFC fighters, which will lead to him receiving no more scam calls, something India is quite infamous about.
He commented on X, “This is the world I dream of. A world where ALL Indians are UFC fighters. A world where I dont get called about my social security number being revoked. No more will my phone company put me in a loop of Indian customers service representatives. We are one step closer…”.
