Indian Paralympic medallist and IAS officer Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj backed the Indian badminton contingent to win a medal at  Paris Olympics 2024 . Lalinakere also extended his best wishes to the Indian contingent participating in the quadrennial tournament in the French Capital, Paris. Notably, a total of 117 athletes (5 reserve players) are set to compete in 69 medal events across 16 sporting disciplines at the global sporting evet. The Paris Olympics 2024 will officially get underway from July 27 with India aiming at recording best medal haul and breaking past records. 

Suhas, a 2020 Tokyo Paralympics silver medallist, told India TV that India’s men’s doubles players Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy who are in the best of forms recently in the sport can win a medal for the country. Suhas said, “I am very much hopeful that India will win a medal in the men’s doubles event in badminton this time. I will be surprised if the Satwik-Chirag duo doesn’t win a medal in Paris.” 

Talking about two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, Suhas said that form doesn’t hold much importance and everything goes down to the athlete’s performance on the match day. Lalinakere said, “Things will get tougher for Sindhu as she will go deep in the Olympics. As far as her form is concerned, I think it doesn’t hold greater significance and what is more important is your performance on the match day.” 

The 41-year-old extended his best wishes to Indian athletes and said “I wish all the best to our Indian contingent at the Paris Olympics and hope that we win a lot more medals this time around.” Notably, Indian shuttlers will begin their campaign at the Games on Saturday, July 27.
