T20 World Cup 2022 has almost reached it's business end as teams from Group 1 have played all five games and the top two teams of the table New Zealand and England have qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament.
On Sunday, the remaining three games of the Super 12 stage South Africa vs Netherlands, Pakistan vs South Africa and India vs Zimbabwe will be played to complete the group stage of the event and the proceedings will take place for the semi-final of the T20 WC 2022 event.
Here in this article, we will have a look at whether India will be able to face the England team in T20 World Cup 2022.
Remaining Schedule of ICC men's T20 World Cup 2022:
SA vs NED in Adelaide, 5th Nov (5:30 AM)
PAK vs BAN in Adelaide, 5th Nov (9:30 AM)
IND vs ZIM in Melbourne, 5th Nov (1:30 PM)
Current points table of Group-2 in T20 WC 2022 {Net run rate (NRR) in brackets}:
IND: 6 (+0.73)
SA: 5 (+1.44)
PAK: 4 (+1.11)
BAN: 4 (-1.276)
ZIM: 3 (-0.313)
NED: 2 (-1.233)
Now, for India to face England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 then they must end as table toppers of Group 2.
- India will definitely end as table toppers if they beat Zimbabwe in the final game of T20 WC 2022.
- If India lose their final game then they may not be able to finish as table toppers as South Africa could (or) Pakistan could become the table topper of Group-1. In spite, of loss India can end up as a table topper if:
- South Africa (SA) lose to Netherlands (NED) (or) South Africa vs Netherlands (NED) ends up being no result
- Pakistan lose to Bangladesh (or) Pakistan (PAK) vs Bangladesh (BAN) ends up being no result.
In conclusion, if India beat Zimbabwe they will meet England in the semifinal. If they have to meet England in the knockout stage despite a defeat then they would have to hope for South Africa to lose to Netherlands or their face off ending without a result and Pakistan losing or their last league game being a no result.
