On Saturday, November 30, South Africa registered a dominant 233-run victory against Sri Lanka at the Kingsmead in Durban to go 1-0 up in the two-match Test series. After their win, South Africa replaced Australia in second spot of the World Test Championship standings, keeping in contention to feature in the summit clash, set to take place at the Lord’s in June 2025.
Seeing their win, the door is now opened for several teams to seal a spot in the final of the WTC Final. While South Africa will have a daunting task as they next take on Sri Lanka in the final Test, followed by a Test series against Pakistan, Australia and India are also featuring in a five-match Test series, down under.
How can India qualify for WTC Final after SA’s win over SL?
Leading the points table with 61.11 PCT, India are currently in strong position to seal their spot in the final. The Men in Blue will have to win at least three matches down under to ensure a place in the top-two. The side can reach to best possible finish with 69.30 PCT with four Test matches remaining.
On the other hand, for Australia, who have dropped down to third place after Protea Men’s win against Sri Lanka, will need at least four wins from their remaining six Tests if they are to stand a chance to defend the WTC title. For South Africa, their following three games are of extreme importance. If they continue this winning run, they’ll be in safe place to make the WTC irrespective of how the sides fare.
