The Men in Blue slipped to third place after their 10-wicket defeat against Australia in second Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test in Adelaide. On the other hand, Australia displaced India to reclaim the top spot, however, their stay was not long as South Africa eventually replaced Australia on Monday, December 9 after they whitewashed Sri Lanka 2-0.

On Monday, the Temba Bavuma-led side emerged victorious by 103 runs to register a clean sweep in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. With this, the Protea Men registered their fifth consecutive Test win and fourth successive Test victory over Sri Lanka.

How can India qualify for WTC 2025 Final?

Seeing this, scenarios have worsened for Rohit Sharma-led Team India as they sit at third place with a point percentage of 57.20. With three matches remaining in the WTC 2023-25 cycle, India needs to win all three to ensure their qualification with a best possible percentage of 64.04.

Other than India, it seems to be a cake walk for South Africa as they sit at the top place with 63.33 per cent. With two Test matches remaining (against Pakistan in SA), a win in both would take them to 69.44 %, making sure their seal one spot. Australia, who dropped in second place, have five Test matches remaining (three vs India and two vs Sri Lanka). The Pat Cummins-led side can theoretically draw 2-2 with India and stay in contention for a final.
